Laos, located in Southeastern Asia, is officially known as the Lao People's Democratic Republic and it is a landlocked nation. Most of the population is employed by the agriculture sector. The main crop is rice, engaging most of the labor force. Other crops grown include sweet potatoes, vegetables, corn, peanuts, coffee, sugarcane, tobacco, cotton and tea. The country has a variety of mineral resources such as coal, gold, iron, gypsum, copper, lead, tin and precious stones. Tourism is also a growing industry of Laos. Main industries of the country are tin and gypsum mining, garments, timber, construction, electric power and agricultural processing. |
